Covid-19 Report
CORONA VIRUS
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held
on 6th May decided to extend the ongoing nationwide lockdown till 18th May 2020
then after that again extended.
The
Ministry of Health and Populations, Health Emergency Operation Centre , is
leading the response with the support of UN agencies and many other
organizations. Nepal Red Cross Society is also the part of it, with the support
of movement partners and government agencies at all levels NRCS is responding
to the current situation. NRCS emergency operation Centre (EOC) was activated
on 6th of February 2020 and 73 SITREPS released with the activities held in 77
District chapters of Red Cross.

Nepal is currently under
lockdown where people are self-isolating and staying home till 6th June
2020 midnight which has been declared by the Nepal Government Officials. The
lockdown was declared for the safety of citizens and a way to contain the
community spread of the novel Corona virus (COVID-19). People are starting
to question the lockdown as will it extend to another week or so? But,
according to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Pokhrel who is
leading Nepal’s fight against COVID-19, “We are closely following developments.
We cannot actually say how long the lockdown will go.” Lockdown has yet not
affected any transportation of food, fuel, and essential supplies from India
into Nepal through four border crossings. The duration of Nepal’s lockdown will
also depend on how the situation evolves in India. With China well on its way
to containing the virus, and given its strict level restrictions, there is less
of a threat to Nepal from the north. But due to the open border and the
provision of the free movement of people across it, Nepal will have a hard time
controlling the spread of the Coronavirus from India. Furthermore, Clinic
one has been in its service since the lockdown. We have been serving our
patients through phone calls and WhatsApp. The patients can consult with their
respective doctors through the phone.
